RETROFIT STORAGE
Add a battery to your existing solar system
Already generating solar power? Find out whether battery storage could help you use more of it at home. Solvitec Solar helps homeowners in Hobart, Greater Hobart and Southern Tasmania assess their existing system and explore suitable battery options.
Your next step
Send us your electricity bill and inverter details, and tell us whether your priority is evening electricity use, backup or future household changes. We will explain the options and what needs checking at your property.

01
Add a battery to your existing system
A battery recommendation should start with what you already have. Share a recent electricity bill, your inverter make and model, and any available solar monitoring information. We can then discuss your household electricity use, your goals and the checks needed before recommending equipment.
02
Can I keep my current solar panels and inverter?
Adding a battery does not automatically mean replacing your whole solar system. The suitable connection depends on your current equipment and the proposed battery. Some installations can retain their solar inverter and add a separate battery inverter; others may need an inverter change. Compatibility needs to be checked for your specific system.
03
What size battery makes sense?
Start with when you use electricity and how much solar is available to store. We also consider your budget and plans such as an electric vehicle or additional electric heating. The largest battery is not automatically the best choice: ask for a recommendation tied to your usage and a clear explanation of the assumptions.
04
Do you want backup during a blackout?
Tell us which appliances you would want to keep running. Backup is not included automatically with every battery installation. It requires suitable equipment and configuration, and the circuits supplied and operating time depend on the design, available charge and appliance demand. Ask for the backup scope to be stated in your proposal.
05
What about battery incentives?
The Australian Government’s Cheaper Home Batteries Program can apply to eligible batteries connected to new or existing solar. Eligibility and the discount depend on the applicable requirements and installation details. Ask for any proposed incentive to be itemised in your quote; do not assume every battery or installation qualifies.
The federal battery rebate calculation is scheduled to reduce from 1 January 2027. If you are considering an installation before that change, check system suitability and realistic installation timing early.
