The Hidden Costs of Choosing the Cheapest Solar Quote

There is huge competition in the solar marketplace at the moment, although people are still confused and largely unsatisfied with the choice of companies available. Many customers are also price-conscious, and a large number of companies are selling solely on the basis of being the cheapest in the market.

I completely understand that solar is an investment, and the return on investment largely depends on the initial outlay. I do not support companies overcharging customers in the name of being local or because of expensive marketing in the background. However, I am also not in favour of selecting the cheapest quote without fairly analysing why it is so cheap.

Many companies in the market are combining cheaper products with cheaper installers and are not taking proper care of customer satisfaction. Although it may seem like the best deal at the time of purchase, cheaper products may not perform well in the long term. Solar panels usually come with a 25-year warranty, but it is important to check whether the panel’s performance is also covered for the same period. You should also check how much efficiency is guaranteed under the warranty. This is one of the most important factors, but there is much more to consider. The same applies to the Inverter and other equipment used in the system.

Some installers charge less for installation. They often work with fewer labour staff, which means the installation may take longer, or they may cut corners to complete the job on time. Solar retailers know exactly what category of installer they are hiring. A company that knowingly contracts an installer with a poor reputation is not doing justice to its customers. The biggest problem often arises when the installer is required to honour the workmanship warranty.

The biggest difference between a cheaper quote and a fair quote is often the after-sales service. You do not need to choose a company with a huge marketing and sales budget that charges a premium price. You need a company that is focused on taking care of its customers when it matters most. Many companies invest heavily in customer acquisition, but the company you can truly rely on is the one that continues to support you after the installation is complete.

At Solvitec Solar, we value customer satisfaction and aim to provide honest local advice tailored to your needs. We will not work with products that we do not trust. We are

often asked to use products included in cheaper quotes that customers have received, but we have learned the hard way that the cheapest product does not always offer the best value for money.
